Regardless of the type of air compressor you use (piston or rotary screw), your system needs checks and balances to ensure it doesn’t overheat and continues working efficiently. Compressed air becomes very hot (sometimes exceeding 200+ degrees Fahrenheit) and in order to keep it from damaging other equipment, the compressed air must be cooled which will cause the oil and water vapor to return to a liquid. While this water needs to be drained out of the system, you don’t want oil and other contaminants to drain with it. Here, the oil water separator captures all of the impurities (including the oil) from the liquid water and stores it in a cartridge.

An oil water separator has one main goal: safely removing the impurities from the water before disposal. It’s important to maintain enviornmentally safe and legal disposal of any contaminants within a manufacturing line, and an oil water separator ensures that this occurs.
